Active Neighbourhoods Survey Privacy Notice

Introduction

Transport for Greater Manchester is committed to making sure that we tell you about the ways in which we use your personal information and that we have the right controls in place to make sure it is used responsibly and kept safe from inappropriate access, theft, or misuse.

An Active Neighbourhood is a place where the movement, health and safety of people is prioritised over cars. It’s simply about creating safe, attractive space for people to spend time chatting or for children to play, typically created using planters or bollards to reduce through traffic. The changes also make it easier to get around on foot and by bike.

All these things can have positive effects on air pollution, congestion, residents’ health and wellbeing, and safety on residential streets. This is also about stopping people using residential roads as a cut-through. Residents will still be able to access their homes by car and emergency vehicles will still be able to drive onto the street. Throughout 2021 we have been engaging with local communities and we have developed a draft design based on the feedback we have received from you throughout the process. This survey aims to gather your feedback on the draft proposals.

This notice explains how we use your information and tells you about your privacy rights and how to law protects you.

TfGM are the data controller for the information collected for the Active Neighbourhood survey, with Arup and QA Research processing your data on our behalf.

What categories of personal data are used?

Other than postcode, please note that providing personal data is not mandatory in order to complete the Active Neighbourhoods survey. Personal data that we will collect includes:

• Postcode
• Age Range

We may also collect sensitive personal data including:

• Gender
• Ethnicity
• Disability

This is in order for us to hear from a diverse range of people reflective of the local area. This information will help us to hear from a range of voices, and identify any possible discrimination or barriers for particular groups of people. Any personal information will remain strictly confidential and we will not use it in a way that could identify you. Other than postcode you also do not have to provide this information if you do not wish to. All feedback and analysis of the data we collect will be anonymised.

Under what legal basis does the processing of personal data take place?

The UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 provide for a number of different legal bases under which processing of personal data may take place. In relation to the processing of the personal data as part of Clean funds the following basis applies:

• GDPR Article 6(1)(e): the processing is necessary for the performance of its official tasks carried out in the public interest.

For special category data our lawful basis is:

• GDPR Article 9(2)(g) processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest.

How do we keep your information safe?

TfGM and QA Research will keep any personal data you provide safely and securely in line with our policies and procedures.

How long is information kept for?

Personal data will only be held for the length of the project which is anticipated to be no longer than September 2022.

Who will we share your information with?

The results of the survey will be anonymised and aggregated before being provided to the Local Authority. Your personal information will not be shared with any other third parties or be used by QA Research. It will strictly be used for the Active Neighbourhoods project only.

Your rights as a data subject (any individual person who can be identified)

The UK GDPR gives you the following rights over your information:

• Your right to get copies of your information - You have the right to ask for a copy of any information about you that is used.
• Your right to get information corrected - You have the right to ask for any information held about you that you think is inaccurate to be changed.
• Your right to limit how your information is used - You have the right to ask for the use of any information held about you to be restricted. For example, you can ask this where you think the information TfGM is using is inaccurate.
• Your right to object to your information being used - You can ask for any information held about you not to be used. This is not an absolute right and TfGM may need to continue to use your information. We will tell you why if this is the case.
• Your right to get your information deleted - You can ask for any information held about you to be deleted. This is not an absolute right and TfGM may need to continue to use your information. We will tell you why if this is the case.
