You must touch-in at a smart reader or buy a ticket for every journey you make on Metrolink. If you fail to do this, you are liable for a penalty fare and we only consider an appeal in exceptional circumstances. You can find a guide to appealing a contactless penalty fare below.

An incomplete journey charge applies if you touched-in at the start of your journey but didn't touch out when your journey was complete.

You cannot appeal for this reason. Customers must always touch-in at the smart reader when travelling contactless or have a valid ticket before boarding the tram. If you failed to touch-in, you are liable for the penalty fare. Please see the conditions of carriage.

You cannot appeal for this reason. If you’ve lost your card or it’s been stolen, it’s important to let the card issuer e.g. Bank know as soon as you can, so they can provide further help.

You cannot appeal for this reason. Customers must have a vaild ticket before boarding the tram. Please see the conditions of carriage.

You cannot touch in with the member of staff as this is an inspection to check you have touched in. You must touch on at the platform reader before boarding or attempting to board the tram. Appeals cannot be made for this reason.

It is the customer's responsibility to provide the correct ticket on demand. When you present a card/device for inspection it is your promise that you touched on with the same card/device before boarding. Unfortunately appeals cannot be made where customer subsequently provides ticket evidence as we cannot check who bought the ticket, who it was bought for, or that the ticket was in their possession at the time of the inspection.
